Battle for Tech Talent: Report Shows Slight Dip in Open Regional Tech Positions
In March, we took a look at the Nashville Technology Council’s Technology Hiring Trends Report for the fourth quarter of 2011, which showed that there were over 1,000 open technology positions in Middle Tennessee.
Last month, the Tech Council released its first quarter 2012 data, which showed 853 open tech positions in Middle Tennessee, down 18 percent from the end of last year. Before we get excited about the progress, the report also warns that seeing a dip in the first quarter is often normal as “companies better define new projects.”
While it may be too early to tell if the downward trend will continue, we do think it’s notable that Nashville is filling tech positions faster than the state as a whole. While Middle Tennessee’s open positions decreased by 18 percent, the state as a whole showed a 10 percent decrease to 1,269. Perhaps this small stat shows that Middle Tennessee is making progress in the battle for attracting technology talent within our region.
